Get away from it all! Experience the wilderness and wonder of West Virginia on a less traveled path. We're not your typical commercial campground! Drink in the beautiful views of the Gauley River gorge and hike the nature trails on our property while experiencing the sights and sounds of a real working farm. While The Gauley River Wild & Woolly Primitive Campground might have "primitive" in the name, don't let that fool you. We've grown to provide a total of 8 sites on our farm for camping with a site suited for every camping style! Two sites in our main field accommodate both campers and small RVs (up to 35') as well as tent and vehicle camping. Three sites are drive-up tent and vehicle camping only and two sites are tent only. One tent-only site has a 3-minute hike and the other has a 20-minute hike to the top of the mountain for incredible night skies! All sites are spaciously separate from one another where you'll feel you're the only campers here. And there are plenty of amenities! Perfect for couples who want to get away from it all, or for families or groups of friends with different camping styles who want to reconnect and catch up. Open March through November.

Located in our main field and centrally located close to the sheltered common area, drinking water, our amazing hot water shower and recreation lodge. Firepit and table provided. Also room for extra tents. Price: $50.00/night for up to 2 adults, $10/night for each additional adult. Children 12 and under are free. Up to a total of 8 guests. This site is not available during Gauley season.

Site 4 -- This site accommodates tent and vehicle camping. A lovely little flat area in a walnut grove makes it perfect for those with hammocks. Close to the registration booth, sheltered common area, drinking water, hot water shower and recreation lodge. Room for several tents. Firepit grill and sheltered tables provided. Price: $20.00/night/adult for 1 - 2 adults. $10/night for each additional adult. Children 12 and under are free. Up to 2 vehicles at the site and 8 guests. Additional vehicles can park adjacent to site.

Site 5 -- Located away from the common area and across the creek from our barn pasture, this site accommodates tent and vehicle camping. You can watch the sheep and horse graze in the field across the creek from you. Fall asleep listening to the many species of owls who make their home here. Close to the hiking trails, you can see and hear so much nature. Firepit, park-style grill and sheltered table provided. Price: $20.00/night/adult for 1 - 2 adults. $10/night for each additional adult. Children 12 and under are free. Up to 2 vehicles and 6 guests. Additional vehicles park in main field.

Site 6 -- This passenger vehicle drive-up site gives you the most privacy out of all the drive-up sites as it's literally at the head of the hollow! Spacious, wooded and quiet. Fall asleep listening to the many species of owls who make their home here. Large enough for several tents. Lots of trees for hammocks. Firepit, park-style grill and sheltered table provided. Site 7 - Our walk-in site is for tent camping only, but you'll not be far from your vehicle. Less than a 5 minute hike, this site is set just out of site on the hill above our main pasture field. Wooded and private. Firepit grill and table provided. Price: $20.00/night/adult for 1 - 2 adults. $10/night for each additional adult. Children 12 and under are free. Up to 2 vehicles and 6 guests.

Site 8 -- We've saved the best 'til last! The top of the mountain! But you won't be looking for a level spot. There's a huge field on top of our mountain, large enough for big groups. Experience incredible night skies while you listen to the owls and other nature sounds sleeping under the stars! Although it's a 20 minute hike up the mountain, the trail is spacious and has many flat levels to give you a break. But it is recommended that you pack lightly. The site is furnished with a table, firepit, and park-style grill. AND, there's even a portajohn near the site so you don't have to walk too far! If you want privacy and peace and quiet, this site is well worth the effort to get there! Price: $20.00/night/adult for 1 - 2 adults. $10/night for each additional adult. Children 12 and under are free. Up to 6 vehicles and 20 people.

Fry up some farm fresh eggs over the campfire or grill! Park-style grills and fire pit grills are provided for your use. You are, of course, welcome to bring your own small portable grill. And to make your "roughing it" camping experience not so rough, we've added a few amenities! Clean Portajohns are provided as well as a common area with a dishwashing station and a "to die for" outdoor hot water shower! Firewood is available for just $5.00 a load and farm fresh eggs are also available for just $5.00/dozen. You can pre-order both firewood and eggs when you make your reservation request.

Here you’re only a short drive from the New River Gorge National Park where you can go whitewater rafting or take a hike and experience the stunning beauty of the gorge, swim or paddleboard in Summersville Lake or go rock climbing on one of around 150 routes on the crags of the lake. In addition, you’ll be within walking distance of the Gauley River with all it’s wild untamed beauty where you can kayak, swim, fish, paddleboard, or splash in a waterfall. Not to mention being on a sheep farm, you can have the opportunity to learn about wool and wool processing. You can even learn how to felt wool and take home your creation! You can sign up for a lesson when you make your reservation!

Groups of 20 or more can rent the Gauley River Wild & Woolly Campground for your next group camping outing or special event such as a family reunion, private party, etc. where you plan and run your activities.
